Leader: review the source and site procedures before presenting. Adapt this briefing to today’s task and the crew’s language and training needs. This is an original educational talk, not OSHA-issued training or certification.
Start the conversation
A customer wants a charger near a parking space, but the proposed cable route crosses a walkway.
Key talking points
- Review the proposed location with the responsible designer and installer. Consider vehicle movement, pedestrian access, mounting, environmental exposure, and how the charging cable will be managed during ordinary use.
- Confirm that the electrical design addresses the adopted code, equipment instructions, and available supply. An empty breaker space does not establish sufficient service capacity or authorize an installation.
- Plan the installation's isolation, qualification, and inspection requirements before work. Keep customers and vehicles outside the work boundary while conductors, foundations, or equipment are being installed.
- Use the manufacturer's permitted mounting and connection arrangements. Resolve conflicts with bollards, access routes, and cable reach before substituting equipment or changing the design in the field.
- At handover, explain the equipment's operating instructions and reporting process for damage. Record settings and outstanding issues so an unauthorized change cannot quietly defeat the intended design assumptions.
- Crew exercise: apply this discussion to one actual location in today's assignment. Describe the sequence from preparation through cleanup, identify who could be affected, and agree what must be in place before the first person starts. Use a drawing or a safe observation point; do not create an exposure for the demonstration.
- Make the decision practical: name the person who will resolve missing information and confirm the controls. If the planned conditions change, stop the affected activity and obtain a revised plan. At the next briefing, review whether the agreed action was completed and what the crew learned.
Ask the crew
- What is the most important hazard in our version of this task?
- What would make us stop and ask for a revised plan?
Before work starts
Identify one task-specific improvement, assign a responsible person, and confirm it is in place before the affected work begins.
